Hey guys, I've just purchased a 2007 3dr 1.6+ Grand Vitara, had a Ford Fiesta ST previously (bit different!!) and am wondering how capable this vehicle is off road?
I understand it has a limited slip diff not locking diffs and no low range box, does this affect the off road capability drastically? I'm not talking about serious abuse, just some light green lanes, driving in fields and the British winter snow and ice.
I believe the four wheel drive system is perminently on rather than switching between 2 and 4 automatically, is this correct?
The sales man didn't know too much about this stuff and trawling the net hasn't given me much info as most reviews are for the diesel or american vehicles.
Cheers

Yep... For basic off roading (from my experience with mine which is the same) it is great. The all wheel drive is permanent as you said.
I used mine on many different terrains, snow, mud, dirt, and my favorite, soft sand dunes.
Despite my initial doubts, I have to say I am impressed with the performance. The shorter wheel base really helps, so does the light weight.
So yes, I think you will be happy with it... some "big" off roaders were having trouble catching up on the soft sand, and same with snow. |
