Hi,
I've just purchased a Vitara JX 1999 model. Can anybody give me some adivce on how to use the W wheel drive. When do I select the 4W H or 4WL before or after I turn the hubs?
Does everyboy find that the steering gets very hard? Where can I get an owners manual?

Yes the steering does get very hard in 4WD

The front free wheeling hubs are just there to reduce drag on the transmission when it's in 2WD, lots of trucks don't even have them. I'd suggest it may be easier to engage the hubs before selecting 4WD but I don't think it really matters.

Forgot to say Zooks don't have a centre differential so don't use 4WD on a dry road road because you'll get what's called transmission wind up which may damage something in the transmission, in fact there's no need for it on a wet road either, I only use it on slippery or loose surfaces.

Top tip for getting it back into 2WD after a 4WD session is to reverse a couple of metres first, then it should slot right in nice and easy. If you don't reverse you'll find yourself trying to force it which again isn't good for the car.
