I have a 1995 V6 LWB vitara, imported from Japan. My clutch has very little give in it and when first starting the vehicle is hard to get in gear. I thought I'd adjust the clutch cable but my arrangement looks nothing like the one in the Haynes manual I have for the 1.6 etc. The pedal appears to operate a piston that exits throught the bulkhead. On the other side of the bulkhead, in line I think, is a small fluid bottle that is empty. Is this a clutch fluid bottle? Help!!! Confused

Welcome to the site, the brake fluid usually operates the clutch too - if the bottle's empty you'd have brake problems too.

Its not brake fluid. That's in a different reservoir.

yes thats your clutch master cyulinder.

top it up and bleed it through then look for leaks as youve obviously lost the fluid somewhere.

if youre not sure, it shouldnt cost much to get diagnosed and sorted or speak to one of the guys on here if theyre local to you, maybe someone would be good enough to teach you how to do it?

JUst to clarify. On the firewall is a large black circular object with a fluid reservoir attached, I presume this is the master brake cylinder/servo. The one I'm talking about is much smaller, inboard of that. Also what DOT fluid do I need. (handbooks in japanese)
