OK, I don't profess to be an expert in these things but here's what I'd do...

First check if it's got spark. If it hasn't I'd be checking the wiring around the ignition switch again, and check all the fuses... has it got an electronic immobiliser that could be causing this?

Have vitara's got electric or mechanical fuel pumps? If it's an electric one you again need to check if it's pumping fuel, does it have power? Connections, fuses etc again.

....or you could wait for someone who knows what they're on about! Wink  Laughing

Don't know if you've solved your problem but reading your post I think your immobiliser is the problem.
the black box with the wire to the barrel is part of the system: The black barrel ring is the pick up for the
transponder in your key. The immobiliser is linked and paired to the engine control unit (ECU) under the bonnet.
As far as I am aware, if you change the column black box you have to get the ecu re-coded to recognise the new
unit. Your main dealer can do this but will probably charge a fortune for the privilege; alternatively, you could
try a specialist auto electrician who may be able to help. They won't be cheap but should be better value than
a main dealer.

hope this helps
