So just bought my first samurai and when i was under it doing an oil change there is an oppening at the bottom of the bell housing and the bottom 3 inches of the flywheel is exposed.  Or at least what i think is the flywheel, it definitally has the starter gear teeth on it...is this supposed to be exposed or did the guy i buy it from botch some sort of repair?

there is a small metal plate that is held on by 2 10mm bolts, you have to remove the plate when you remove the engine  Very Happy
