hello suzuki fans.
i am planning to buy a suzuki vitara and having looked at a few on the net i am starting to realise that there is more to this than meets the eye. what i need help with is model recognition, i would like to get a 1600cc motor with the minimum amount of technology on it so i do not want a full closed loop injection system, would prefer carb. is there more than one type of softop, ie partial backend only and full softtop, can you get a hard top as an add on for any of the soft tops, and what do all the letters , jlx etc mean. how do i recognise one model from the other. are there any obvious no no,s that i should be aware of. i am quite familiar with automotive technology but know squat about these motors. i have gleaned some horrors about welding in the back, is that because of leaky softops. what kind of mileage are they good for etc etc. i would be grateful for any help with this. oh yes, i plan to spend less than £1000, am capable of most repairs but i am not in the mood for welding as i have another few things on the go. thankyou. |

I would start with an 8v and go for the newest you can afford the Vitara is a simple mechanical beast the last of the line were 1.6 8v single point injection I think carbs stopped around 97 but could be wrong. There were hard tops for soft tops available back in the day and they do come up on e-bay now and again but IMO look awful. |
