Hi Just brought a 1994 Vitara SWB for fun and fix up with my children. It runs well but the other day I took it out for a run and filled up the tank. The fuel gage does not work but I assumed it will do around 300 miles at worse. When I set of it had done 190 miles so far. I travelled around another 15 miles and it ran out of petrol. I filled it back up with £35 worth of unleaded. Does anyone know how much the tank take and what is the cause of the tank gage not working?

Thanks

Ranj

Samurai tanks are 40 litres, I'm pretty sure that Vitaras are the same size. So that's 8.8 gallons. 205 miles to a tank is about 23.3 mpg, not too bad....depending on the sort of driving you were doing....  Confused

Going by the price of fuel you put in it sounds about right to me it costs around £32ish quid to fill mine from empty and it will do around 240miles on a good day or a chug up the Mway mixing it with the lorry's  Very Happy
As for the fuel gauge have you checked the simple things fuse, connections to gauge and sender unit on the tank?
At about a pound a litre I would say the vitara's got around 35 litre fuel tank on it.  Wink

The fuel gauge fault is common and its intergrated into the tank so you have to change the tank  Shocked
I`m looking for one at the moment for our grand vitara 2.0 tdi
