The reason I got my Vitara was I had a Land Rover Freelander that broke terminally I used it for transporting my boats and kit round the country, so was in the market for another vehicle and had a soft spot for the Suzuki Vitara. So sourced out a good one, took the back seats out I can get a weeks worth of camping and canoeing gear in and two 16ft canoes on the roof.
So on to the canoeing I am into what's known as tripping canoeing where you carry all you need in your boat and vanish into the wilds of Scotland for a week or so making a journey by means of Loch lake and rivers, wild camping, cooking over fires a drop of a good malt either solo or with one of my buddies. you can cross Scotland by this method of canoeing where you get to a bit of land between lochs or rivers you can "portage" carry your canoe and gear overland this is hard work but that's what the Canadians designed them for.
I have seen some fantastic places in this country that arn't even accessible by Suzuki, paddled with seals on Loch Etive a sea loch that extends 20 miles inland with no roads, been stormbound on island's for days unable to leave because of gale force wind and waves. but it all adds to the adventure.
Wild camping on Loch Etive
Solo (one man Candian canoes) fully loaded with gear on a multi-day saltwater trip mines the white one.
Seals
Canadian Canoes can be sailed as well as poled ,the pole splits into two six foot lengths and becomes part of the mast and boom on the sailing rig, ideal when you find your self on a lake with the wind behind you and poles are used to go up river against the current.
Me Poling up the River Dee O Black water in Scotland.
Rigged for sailing.
Me Portaging my 16 ft Mohawk.
Running a small weir.
Playing on the River Lune.
Couple of weeks ago at home in the lakes.
I also administrate an open canoe forum Black Sheep Paddlers
Hope I haven't bored you to death. _________________ There not canoes more of a snorkel and aero aid rolled into one |

You can on a small scale even in this country, but with the more liberal access laws in Scotland there quite a few remote tracks along that you can drive down to and set up camp and not see anyone for days I often see guys doing this on some of my trips. _________________ There not canoes more of a snorkel and aero aid rolled into one |

Golgarth, I have a few canoeing buddy's in your part of the world, and it's not that far from the lakes so if you ever fancy a go give me a shout, were not adverse to taking a newbie out.
That go's for any of you I have all the spare gear and a garage full of canoes _________________ There not canoes more of a snorkel and aero aid rolled into one |

Hey get a rack on the LJ when its done, anyone can canoe once you have shelled out for the gear that's it, it not like a lot of hobbies/pass time/ sports where stuffs always updated and you have to spend a fortune all the time.
Also thanks for the interest guys.
Loch Doon last week a four hundred mile round trip little zuke did fine about £70 in petrol not bad with a 16ft canoe on the roof.
