My gearbox had a complete overhall 3 weeks ago and the shifts are now very smooth.

Very occasionally though, when I go to stick it in reverse it will grind.  Is this just a Vitara thing, or have they bodged something that I will need to get done?

Cheers

Benner

Welcome to the forum Benner  Very Happy

As for your gearbox, doesnt sound right for something that has just been refurbed. I would pop it back and get them to have a quick drive just to make sure everything is OK  Wink

Been out in it loads today and it didn't do it at all.  Confused

Not too concerned as the gearbox refurb came with a 12 month warranty, so if it does develop any problems it can go straight back.

It may have been that your engine revs were a bit too high, reverse gear isn't synchromeshed as far as i know so higher than tickover revs would result in crunching.   Wink

Just for info really, this is a very common thing.  Like redneck said the reverse gear isn't syncromeshed and it's a case of timing it correctly with the correct amount of revs.

Now I have the art of this all is fine.  So no probs, phew!

Yeah I think I used to have my revs up a little high as well.

You soon get the hang of smoothly popping it in though.
