hi all , took mmy sj410 to wild tracks off road course at the weekend , was its 1st proper run since i bought it and was amazed at ware it could go and showed up my brothers mk1 shogun and our mates discovery  Laughing . the jeep was all ok on the journey home but has now developed a high pitched screech that i cannot pinpiont its location from in the cab , the screech comes and goes and varies from when pulling away to permanently there to not doing it at all , i did notice that there is a lot of dryed mud etc in the front brakes so am going to clear it out to see if this rectifys the noise . a friend i spoke recons the thrust bearing may have gone  in my clutch and is causing the noise but i would have thought that the noise would be there permantly there if the thrust bearing had gone or if there was a problem with my gearbox , any advice would be greatly appreciated , thanks

hi , i put a new fan belt on last night .is a really weird sounding screech sounds like its coming up through the floor , cant pinpoint it as is quite loud , i thought it was  coming from around the gear stick , when is making the noise putting the clutch in and out doesnt make it go away either.and have tryed putting it in 2wd and 4h and low , and is only there when the jeep is moving , no noise when starting or stationary ,  The clutch doesnt slip , but has a bit of noise from the thrust bearing which has been there since i bought it .

id check the brakes then, just to rule them out.

easier then having the gearbox out.  Laughing

then id have a look at the clutch, gearbox and then transfer box.

fingers crossed its the brakes  Wink

yer im hoping its the brakes , ill let ya know after ive cleaned em out tomorrow after work , didnt bang the gearbox or transfer box on anything as all tucked up out the way so if not the brakes with a bit a luck will be the clutch as know a bloke who has a pit which makes fitting a new one a bit easier , my brother wern't so lucky with his mk1 shogun he managed to bottom out on a rock while dropping in to a deep mud pit and lifted the engine giving him a nice oil leak and what he thinks to be a propshaft .
