I don't know too much about this swap, I believe someone makes all the parts for the swap but i'm not sure who and they're probably pricey. I should imagine it'll need an adapter plate for the gearbox and parts for the clutch as well as a one off exhaust.
I would love to do this to mine though
I also have a 5 speed gearbox fitted as original to my "spare" 410, I wonder if that's ok to use for the swap _________________ Suzuki now gone, replaced by Pajero's |

Yeah I know SOMEONE makes the adapter plate
Other question is the gearing cos a pug diesel will make much lower maximum revs.....
Probably need 31s or 32s in the tyre department to get any decent top end speed with the SJ 5 speed box and pug motor...

Mmmm, that sounds interesting, how much for the plate
I've not driven an SJ on road (or in fact driven one in High ratio ) as all my driving has been off road, I'm not sure gearing will be an issue I would have thought the standard set up would only be at about 4000 revs at quite a high speed (for an SJ) in fifth gear wouldn't it so just guessing that would maybe work out ok with the diesel,
I actually want lower gearing for mine, it has 29" tyres on, which means it really struggles with gearing on very steep climbs _________________ Suzuki now gone, replaced by Pajero's |

Trying to fit a Peugeot engine, i am doing the same thing and have decide to scrap the 413 gearbox. Reasons are the only person that i can find to do it is Rhinorays but apart from being as helpful as a chocolate teapot he wanted £800 to cut the bell housing and weld it????
So i have been out and purchased a LDV pilot van, 1.9 Diesel (Peugeot) so i can now drop the engine and box straight into the jeep. I havent got that far yet BUT only paid £250 for the van (1998 model with 92000 mile, ex royal mail job)
I will keep you update, but you will find it easyier to watch my progress looking under the "projects" part of this forum, where i will post pics.
Thanks Any questions i will try and help you with mate

How you getting on with the pug conversion Chappers?
I want to do this to mine, got my hands on an engine, just need to know what to do next I guess. Have seen converter plates for around £200 to fit the 410 box on but not too sure about the length of the first motion shaft, is it long enough

Well I might be buying a 413 donor for it's box and engine but have to convince the wife it's a good idea I'll let you know what happens Rich
BTW are the axles also wider on the 413 or is that just on the Sammy _________________ Suzuki now gone, replaced by Pajero's |

Memorys a bit blank, Lots going on here at the mo
But I a sure the Sammy has axles about 2" wider than the 413 and 410. Having said that I have heard that the 413 axles are stronger.
A 413 donor ? I may be in need of a engine if you hear of another one. Polo went straight through MOT but may be in need of a new heart soon |

Sammy axles are indeed just under 2" wider than a SJ410/413.
Never herd of sammy axles being weaker infact there more popular due to the extra width.
When they updated the sj to the sammy it was to help with the tippy uppy effect when cornering at speed.
Don`t forget though, an sj410/413 axle that has the transmition brake instead of the rear drum brake,
is easier for a rear disk conversion ! _________________ It`s Not What You Do It`s The Way That You Do It

Should have made that clearer. Its the SJ410 axles that are supposed to be weaker Sammy ones are the ones to get |
