Hi

I have a Suzuki Grand Vitara 2.0 petrol 2004 and 85,000 miles. The gearbox is now noisy to when driving apart from when in 4th Gear. A mechanic said that it is the "layshaft" bearing, something to do with the fact its fine in 4th gear means its this?

He said the part is only a few quid but they will need to take the gearbox apart and labour wise will be about £1000 all in !

Anyone know if this is true and if price is right? its only worth about £2500 anyway so not sure to do it or not

Any help asap would be great

Thanks Smile
