hey all so i bought a 1994 vitara as a project car and i noctice when doing the once over that were the engine meets the gear box there is a gap exposing about half of a rather large kog the seems to be attatched to the gear box or something.. was just wondering why this is i will try to figure out how to put a photo up later.. just wanting anyones oppinions on this as i was wondering would this be bad in water and mud!

This appears to be the flywheel, the teeth you can see are where the starter motor engages. Try and get the cover that goes over it. In the meentime dont worry, a little bit of water or mud won,t do any harm. Just keep hands well away.
