Hi All,

I've just registered with the site because I bought a 2009 Grand Vitara 2.4 SZ4 3dr yesterday and love it. There is one thing that is bugging me though. I've not got a heavy right foot and usually get at least the makers MPG on all the cars I've had in the past but on a 70 mile trip yesterday - some urban but most duel carriageway so travelling at a steady 70 - my average consumption was 26.7, which I didn't think was that brilliant when the manufacturer's combined is 32.8. The engine runs smoothly, the transmission is in 4H and I've checked the air filter and that's fine, so is the 2.4 engine just very thirsty or has anyone any suggestions why my MPG is so poor?

Many thanks

Gary

Hi I have a GV1600 sport 2003 and I average 29.5  in town on fast A roads and B roads .. and it ranges between I get 27 - 32MPG over the last 8000 miles is 29.5 (sad I know)
so yours seems OK to me.

Thanks for your reply. Perhaps I was being a bit over optimistic thinking that I would match the manufacturers averages! I still think it is a little heavy on fuel though so will check the plugs and attach an OBD2 code reader to see if that throws up anything.

try dropping from 70mph to around 55, itll take longer but the manufacturer figures are based on 56mph (100kmh)
