Since purchasing my 2ltr petrol Grand Vitari 4 months ago it has developed an intermitant problem, in fact its happened 3 times.
It only seems to happen when the engine is warm and the engine is idleing it just cuts out but not everytime. The first time it cut out was on a very busy road, i left the car and called the AA after 20 mins or so the traffic quietened and while still waiting for the AA i got back in the car and tried it and it started up and ran fine took the car anothea quater mile into work and informed AA that car had been moved and to where too and asked if they would still send a patrolman,he couldn't find a problem. Its done the same thing 2 more times and if i leave it stood for 15 to 20 mins it starts and runs fine again.
The only idea i have is maybe one of the coils is faulty when it gets warm, anyone got any suggestions as to how i can test the coils myself or is it a job for a garage with a diagnostic tuner.
Any Ideas greatfully recieved. Crying or Very sad
Cheers

I had a similar, problem years ago. turned out to be a diafram in the fuel pump. It was worn and not pumping enough fuel through  ... when driving along car ran OK but when stopped in traffic, the little fuel was getting hot and evaporating (so patrolman said) and the cutting out ... when the engine had cooled all was OK again (often when the breakdown had arrived).

Car was a Rover 400 !!!!! back in early 90's

I would sugest you get it on a good diagnostic machine with a man who knows how to use it. You cannot guess with modern cars, and dont go playing parts darts as this can become expensive on these. This does sound like a crank sensor fault, but it could be a hundred other things.
