I've got a bit of a leak at the sump gasket, used the Vitara on a little green laning jaunt the other day and spent a litre to the problem!

So I've decided that I'm going to have to change it and theres no real quick fix with this. Found the part on a well known shopping website for about a tenner delivered so I know its cheap enough to do. While researching how to go about this because of the amount of metal in the way, steering rods and the diff for a start.... stumbled across some links to other Suzuki forums suggesting that I should either lift the engine up in the bay to clear enough space to remove said sump OR drop the axle/diff out of the way and in doing so remove driveshafts etc.....

My question is this, is there a slightly easier way?? I.e, could I get away with dropping the suspension legs off and raising the chassis high for the clearance required??

Anyone had any experience with sump removal, specifically on Vitaras?? Advice?

I have a 1.6 16v SWB JX 4U2 for your reference.

Asked a friend of mine who has access to a manual... 7-8.5 ft/lb's. Thought I would post the answer incase this thread is required in the future. I'll post how successful I am after Sunday.  Very Happy

Success! Managed it! After removing the front diff completely, various mounts uncoupled both propshafts, unbolted the transfer/gearbox mountings, separated from engine block enough to reach the bolts on the back of the sump! Bloody knightmare! Anyways, all is complete and back together, gasket holding up well!  Very Happy

Next job, rocker cover gasket!  Confused  Should be a bit simpler!  Laughing
