so she failed the MOT, im not a happy bunny.

if anybody has heard of a common cause of this id like to know how you rectified it.

as follows:

94, 1.6 8v swb vitara,carb engine.

slight misfire, but all the plugs are fine (no wet or gunk)
the leads, rotor arm, dizzy cap, plugs have all been changed.
a compression test has been done, this was all fine.
mechanic has suggested process of elimination, starting with changing coil pack.

id really apreciate it if anybody had any advice as to what i should be trying first.

thanks in advance guys.

My advice would be, take it to a mechanic who can do propper testing without throwing parts at it, at your expence! Any mechanic worth his salt would have diagnostic equipment and a pico scope, and would have nailed that in an afternoon. Shocked

He is a really good mechanic, its not as easy as you say I'm afraid, you can't just to do a diagnostics test cos there is no ecu, so its just process of elimination, he's not taking me for a ride trust me, I can take the parts back if they don't make any difference so I don't pay for them and he doesn't charge me for the labour either. There is no clear signal to what could be the prob that's the trouble. Thanks for the advice tho.

Coils been tried, had a valve clearance, that's all fine, compression test all hunky dory. I'm stumped. Spoke to zocko he said about adjusting the timing in the distributor.

Yes it would be fun but you know me....I like clean, and filling the inside of the car with the mud up to my shoulders does not appeal to me, still wanna go tho, you gonna come?

You can be a 4 legged babe if you want. Pah!

Yay, that will be wicked. Be a slighty different 'night on the piss' won't it. I'm staying in a hotel that night. Rather camp tho, much more fun.
