Okay, so when I picked up my 2.0 V6 it was alittle (as the missis said) tappy when cold, it wore off once warmed up and I put it down to 1. being a V6 and 2. it had been sitting at the back of a forecourt for a little while.

Right, so I went to see a mechainic (about the missis's car) whos been looking after my cars for about the last 4-5yrs so I can trust him and he's a top bloke, and we got talking about my Vitara outside and he said..

"is it tappy?"
"abit"
"but goes away when warm?"
"Pretty much........why"
".....Timing chain, or to be correct its the plastic tensonors thats the trouble"
"Oh..... Big job"
"You could say that, half the front of the cars gota come apart, if it was mine Id drive it till its really bad then just scrap it"
"erm..... Okay?!?!?!"

He quoted about £300+ and in for more than a day and I think that was minus parts, now Ive had alook around and cant seem to find anywhere that does a kit with chain, tensonors and gasketts. I paid about £1200 for the car and its got 78k on the clock and pretty tidy, it seems a shame to drive it into the ground but if the price of getting the chain done is soooo expensive thats money I could spend on my weekend car.

I know the 2.0 V6 isnt that popular as the SWB models are better off road but just wondering if anyone had had the job done and ruffly what it cost. I imagin the 2.5 V6 in the Grand Vitara is basically the same and could be prone to the same issues as would any V engine.

Cheers for any views or opinions

Hmmm, okay is that basically everythin needed to do the job?

If I was spending that kinda money Id probally throw in a water pump seein as it'll be easily accessable by that point, out of interest does the above mentioned kit include all the revelant gasketts aswell?

Oh and how'd I go about orderin that part/kit? Then I just gota find someone to fit it lol

I used a tube of gasket goo ( or something similar) I bought in Halfords when I did my 2.0 V6

Yes it is very similar to the 2.5 V6 engine
