Hi im joe from somerset!
A mate of mine is selling his vit, ive heard stories about them popping front shafts when they have been lifted and he's said that its happened once before.

Are there any easy fixes to stop this happening? I work at a engineering shop so have access to mills/lathes/welding gear!!!

Here's the spec he sent me of it:

4mm steel front diff guard and bash plate

Steel front axle/diff casing (no weak ali standard one)

Heavy duty front winch bumper/bull bar

Rock sliders
Full external roll cage with wing protectors and mount for high lift jack on the roof

Fuel tank raised up higher

Heavy duty front and rear recovery points

Breather kit for front and rear diffs and gearbox and transfer box

Stainless steel backbox and centre section

Stainless steel custom made snorkel

3" calmini super articulation suspension kit with new mercedes 230E front springs to go with the weight of the diesel swap

3" calmini body lift kit

Cargo net and tread plate on the bonnet

Manual electric slimline fan

2 rear spot lights, 2 front roof spot lights and 2 front bumper spot lights

LED rear lights mounted in the rear wings out of the way

Dash mounted control box for fan, spot lights and winch (if you fit one)

12v socket mounted in dash

Bigger battery mounted on the passenger side.

Extra washer jets

CD player

CB and arial

Removable hard top (rare & fetch good money on ebay!!)

Recently changed the front and rear diff, gearbox and transfer box oils.

New passeger side handbrake cable
New clutch
New carbon fibre airbox
New outer cv joints and boots on both driver and passenger side
New prop shaft seal
New p/s hose and new custom high pressure hose to run the XUD p/s pump
New rubber fuel lines
New rear hard brake pipe and new fluid.
New vacuum pump 'o' rings

Featured in TOR (Total Off Road magazine).

All the new stuff has done less than 300 miles!!!

Im pretty new to the 4x4 world but from what ive seen its had alot of money spent on it!

Any ideas what its worth? It will be sold with 12 months mot

Thanks Joe Smile

I assume the issue is the CV joints wearing faster or breaking due to the increase in angle, i guess you could lower the diff, mines not lifted yet but thats what i did on our Mazda B2500 4x4 ti get the CV angle a bit lower.

Or maybe make some stronger ones, of course everytime you increase the strength of one part the damage tends to move along to the next weakest part, which on the front of a Vit is the Alloy Diff casing, I know which part i'd prefer to break.

If you mean popping out then i guess turning up longer ones would be the answer, 4x4 Sierras used to suffer from the front shafts being to short if you lowered them to much.

Its already got the steel diff casing so not too woried about that.

Could you just cut them in half, and slide a steel sleeve over them and weld them back up?

dont see why not as long as they are fairly well balanced, i have butt welded two different propshafts together when i've done engine changes and then run over 200bhp through em and they are just hollow tubes.

Couldnt say im afraid, value is in the eyes of the buyer, I only paid 100 quid for my stock one without MOT but ive seen em priced at 4 times that in worse condition.

Modified motors are never worth the price of all the parts seperately, personally i dont worry to much about "market value" providing I am happy to pay whatever the asking price is, I suppose you could look through ebay at the prices on there to geta  rough idea, dont be fooled by asking prices or buy it now prices though, look at whats being bid on carss that are near the end of auction.

I could put a ten grand BIN on mine, but it dont make it worth that much. Very Happy
