Hi
I have a M reg Vitara JX. When the cold weather came a while back my car decided to stop working. When I turn the ignition, the engine will not start, however 90% of the time I get a clicking noise although some times I get nothing at all.
I still have power to lights, stereo etc, but a friend said the cold may have caused a reduced voltage from the battery and that may be the reason. So this weekend I took the battery out and tested it, it was still regsitering 12V. I left it in doors for 48 hours before putting it back in, so the battery would have been at room temp when I re-tried it but still the same result.
Can anyone can help with a diagnosis, I'd rather not take it to the garage if I can help it!
Cheers |

does the battery light go dim when you try and operate the starter? have you tried tow starting it? have you checked all the wiring is ok? It'd have to be really cold to make a good battery bad enough to not start the car, have you tried hitting the starter motor? |

The battery light does go dim on trying to start it. I have tried hitting the starter and I have some friends coming round tonight to try and pgive it a jump start, see if the starter motor is sticking.
Fingers crossed, I will let you know how I get on. Thanks for the reply |

if youve been off roading you might have some moisture in the starter which will freeze and lock it solid...
activate the solenoid with a piece of wire and make sure it clicks, if not then the starter solenoid is probably boned _________________ the car in front is a toyota...
the car pulling it out of the mud is a suzuki |
