It was confirmed  that my Jimny has the later and more expensive exhaust system. The main dealer price is £240 + fitting. Local exhaust centres and internet sites not much cheaper.

Yes, the weld has failed around the joint between the down pipe and the CAT casing. A welder assures me there is plenty of "meat" to enable it to be MIG welded.

I have not yet agreed to have it done because it was bought to my attention  that precautions ought to be taken. IE disconnect battery, put the earth return clamp directly on the exhaust pipe and /or the fitting of a surge protection device across the battery. If not, it has been suggested that damage could be done to the ECU and other electronics.
Have anyone had any experience/success of MIG welding on modern cars?  Rolling Eyes

I had my Vitara exhaust welded in situ, it has an ECU,  I just disconnected the battery as suggested, if your still concerned unplug the ECU and unscrew it from the body.

I've use this type of welder into my car, and I got a real satisfaction. It is because of the featured and the classification of the welder. The MIG welding was to great suggestion for all of us; it has an affordable one that can make you a good interest in using.
