Hi All
Recently purchased a 1999 Vitara JX, from what i know to lock the front wheels and use in 4 wheel drive you have to twist the dials on the front wheels.
Can anyone tell me at what position the dials are to be in for locked and unlocked.
Thanks in advance! |

I know this is a bit late , but it may help someone else.
To check the manual locking hubs, park the vehicle in gear with handbrake on with 4WD selected on the transfer case shifter. Jack up one front wheel and try to turn it. If you can, the hub is not locked. Now turn the control the other way and check that it is locked - if so, all is well, and you know the correct position.
Repeat for the other side.
The 97-2005 GV is different, as it has a pneumatically actuated front axle clutch. To check that, put the ignition on (to run the air pump) before selecting 4WD - otherwise as above. If the wheel turns the axle clutch is not operating. The usual cause is that the air pipe has fallen off the pump (which is behind the front bumper). |
