Just after buying my 2007 Grand Vitara I realised it had no front fog lights. I was really disappointed and decided to fit some myself ASAP. I asked “Google” and got many links to lighting kits, aftermarket kits, looms, relays etcetera but no-one answered the real question.. I want to fit standard fog lights as fitted by the factory, what do I need?

Here is the answer,  Firstly I bought a switch, a Suzuki replica from china, off ebay, It cost under a fiver and arrived inside a week. I went to the car, prised out the blank in the dash, (next to the headlight leveller), I found a Suzuki harness plug fitted into the back of the blank, I took this plug, plugged it into my new switch and fitted the switch. Lights on, test and the switch lights up as if foglights were installed.  That’s great, so far a fiver and ten minutes and I’ve proved I have the basis of a working circuit..

Next, the fuse box under the bonnet, look in the lid, identify the fog light fuse, hey presto, its already fitted.  In the module bellow the fuse they hide the fog light relay, again already fitted..

Next, back to ebay for a pair of Suzuki pattern lamps, under £30 for the pair with bulbs included..

So I need to find out how to remove the front bumper, its simple and takes only a few minutes, plenty of utube videos to demonstrate, I left the underside screws and fittings in place and just leaned the bumper forward, the bottom self tappers were well rusty and I feared breaking them however I made ample access by tipping the bumper forward and blocking it up with a bin.  Take a Stanley knife and carefully cut out the light apertures, simple but the knife is sharp, take care..  Now mount your fog lights, the mountings are already there, you need to find 6 self tappers for installation.  Lights secure? Great…

Next look at the wiring, you’ll find the fog light cables tied or taped back on the main harness, carefully cut the tape and free the cable. Quick squirt of WD40 into the plug, plug onto the fog lights and refit the bumper..  done inside 30 minutes..

It really is so simple, all the wires are already there, factory fitted. Total cost, £35, total hrs 0.45.
