Hiya mate, ROT and SMOKE.... Wink

I've yet to see a rotten SJ chassis, but the bodywork rots like hell, lift the carpets and check the footwells, check the floor behind the front seats, check the wheel arches, particularly where the rear arches meet the wings and the floor, also check the floor behind the rear arches (where the filler hose is on the right and the corresponding bit on the left), check the....... oh sod it, you get the point! Laughing

The engines can be smokey, usually valve guide seals or piston rings. Mine smokes (heavily sometimes) but only on overrun downhill, been like it since I've had it, 3 years! Never fails the MOT so I'm not too bothered, just remember to top the oil up regularly to replace all the stuff that's burned away.  Very Happy

Other than that they're pretty good, If you can get one that's had the original carb replaced (preferably with an SU) that's a bonus.

thanks  Smile  taking a look at it this monday and just found out she,s got a 10 month mot so its looking pretty good just got to make a mount for the borads to rest on Cool
