I have been working with a well respected technical author / publisher who is currently compiling a Suzuki 4x4 technical manual ...

It should be ready during August this year ... here's some additional detail :

Quote:
General Information

The manual covers the Suzuki models since the introduction of model SJ 410 in 1981. The vehicles were sold in different body styles, which apart from some modifications, additions and model names were always sold as a 4WD convertible, wagon or similar names.

Model SJ 410 is fitted with a 970 c.c. engine with a performance of 45 BHP (33 kW) at 5500 rpm and was generally sold to 1992 in some countries. Engine type F5A is fitted.

During model year 1984 model SJ 413 was added to the model range with a larger engine of 1324 c.c. capacity and a performance of 64 BHP (47 kW) at 6000 rpm. Engine type G13A.
Both the SJ 410 and SJ 413 were sold as an open vehicle or a "closed" vehicle, i.e. a station wagon. With the introduction of the SJ 413 a high roof version was available.

With the introduction model identifications were added. Model SJ 410 was sold as "JA" or "JL", model SJ 413 is known as "JX". The body styles remained the same.

For model year 1987 model SJ 413 was sold as "longbody" version, i.e. increased wheelbase and four doors. As a new model the "Samurai JX" was introduced. The 1324 c.c. engine with the same performance was retained.

The same Samurai models were sold during 1989 but a new model, known as "Vitara" was added to the model range. The vehicle is fitted with a 1590 c.c. engine and 8 valves with a performance of 80 BHP (59 kW) at 5400 rpm (engine type G16A). The same engine was also available with a performance of 82 BHP (60 kW) at 5500 rpm or 75 BHP (55 kW) at 5250 rpm, the latter if a carburettor is fitted.  Vitara "JX" and "JLX" models were available.

The same Vitara models were sold from 1990 onwards, but a 16 valve engine was added, giving the engine a performance of 96/97 BHP (70/71 kW) at 5600 rpm. The Samurai (and Jimny) has, however, a new engine with a capacity of 1298 c.c. and a performance of 69 BHP (51 kW) and electronic fuel injection (engine type G13 B/A).

From model year 1994 both the Samurai and Vitara were fitted with the engines listed above.

Depending on the model year the vehicles are either fitted with a carburettor or with fuel injection. Also depending on the model year the Suzuki can have a catalytic converter or not.

All engines are four-cylinder in-line engines with a single overhead camshaft driven by a timing belt. Valves are arranged in "V". The one-piece cylinder block contains a crankshaft with five main bearings.

Models covered in the manual are built with a synchronised manual four-speed transmission (SJ 410) or a five-speed transmission (remaining models) and a transfer box for the selective two-wheel or four-wheel drive.

Depending on the number of pages, it should come in around the £17-£18 mark ... watch this space!

Simon

Working with Peter Russek, I am now able to offer a technical handbook for Suzuki 4x4's ...

This isn't the Haynes US manual, but a genuine, UK models edition of the Suzuki 4WD workshop manual, covering the Suzuki SJ410, SJ413, Jimny, Samurai and Vitara models.

This book has been produced exclusively for the Suzuki 4x4 Club and is only currently available from Click2Add <-- Click to view more details and to purchase.

With UK delivery included, it's a mere £16.00 and is available to buy online now!

Many thanks to the team at Peter Russek for their prompt turnaround of this Suzuki 4WD Peter Russek Pocket Mechanic Workshop Manual!

Yes I did receive it a couple of weeks ago and the cover looks nice but I have not opened up the book
yet.    The book is kind of small with 212 pages.   I purchased it mainly to learn more about the various
suzuki models made and sold world wide which might help me in the restoration and repair of my
USA 1987 model Samurai.   Maybe some repair parts available in other countries can help me etc.

There are basically two choices for 'off the shelf' tech books for Suzuki 4x4's ...

1. Russek Manual: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001AH7852

2. Haynes Manual: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1859602800
