Hi all , i will try to explain this best i can,

I have an '89 Samurai with standard carb , it had the usual problem of bogging down halfway through the rev range. so I bought the aftermarket addon breather tube for it

upon taking off the airbox however I found that someone had already done a homemade and very  very rough version of the same modification out of a piece of bronze tube which was now falling to bits ( god knows what was holding it in there) I picked the busted bits out only to find that the breather hole was now too large to house the aftermarket bit in the picture !

I am not sure what it did to take the scraps out but I
now have no automatic choke and it wont idle properly even when it finally warms up and i get little backfirey pops and the occasional missfire.

please advise ! would a trip to the garage help here to just get the carb looked at or does it sound like it is beyond repair ?
i have checked all the vacuum hoses and whatnot and nothing seems to be detached , the air filter is new and clean , there are no rips in the pipes, I thought I had knocked something loose when i took the airbox off . I did put the rubber oring back on that sits between the airbox and the carb. I am a little stumped ?
HELP Smile

Cheers
