Hi, just bough a 1997 Suzuki Vitara
4cyl 2L
5sp manual
2 door, SWB
I am looking at getting a 2" body lift to get some bigger tyres on my tonka.
However need advice on any troubles that have arisen or modifications that need to be made to do this successfully.
Any advice is appreciated.

Done this modification on my 98' Vitara 4U2 just the other weekend...

I'll give you a checklist of things to do before the lift. Very Happy
Undo the fuel filler from inside the filler flap.
Remove both bumpers front and rear
Remove the dizzy cap from the distributor, just hang it somewhere away from the bulkhead, don't unplug leads from sparkplugs.
Unclip the battery, positive and negative
Remove both headlights to access the front body bolts.
If you have a brake line union towards the base of the bulkhead, where rubber brake hose runs through, undo it from the body.
Undo/remove air intake from airbox to engine.
Ensure all breather hoses can have freedom to move, both diffs and gearbox and transfer box.
Undo steering shaft bolts, one at the steering box end and the bulkhead end.

Now before you start you will need...
A full free day to complete the work (dry day if in the open)
At least 1 decent jack (Managed to do all mine using a halfords 4x4 jack)
Axle stands and bits/blocks of wood, perhaps a pallet under the vehicle and a selection of scissor jacks (thats how I done it!)
OR a workshop lift?!?!?! Rolling Eyes

Parts required...
The bodylift kit (Duh!), Some come with brackets for refitting bumpers, I chose one with just the body blocks and new body bolts(Bits4Vits).
Steering shaft extention bolts (Bits4Vits can supply, not terribly cheap, also a step by step guide on how to fit them with pics)
Breather kit. (Not required on the day but may as well fit one... thats my plan!)

DISCLAIMER!!
All this is based apon someone(ME!) not giving a sh*t about health and safety and because of that, I must recommend any such modifications be undertaken by a professional mechanic or garage.

After reading all of this, I hope you manage to get your lift done and I'm sure if I've missed anything out, someone will comment to contradict everything I've written!! Rolling Eyes

After reading your second post on this thread, simply raising the body will not give any increase in ground clearance, unless your fitting bigger tyres.  Very Happy

Also I forgot to mention, remove both gear shifters from the cabin.

And while performing the lift, check all the time that nothing is being pulled to its limit or against the body etc. Rolling Eyes
