Hi,
This my first visit to the club. Please accept my apology if I make any mistakes.
I have a 1999 Vitara J4U 2 door petrol. When I get into 5th gear and accellerate to around 45 t0 55mph, an annoying whine begins. If I ease off the throttle it disappears, reappearing when the the throttle is once more applied. I have had various opinions, including gearbox layshaft bearing, rear diff bearing.
I would very much appreciate any advice from owners who have experienced this noise and how they cured it.
Regards,
James. |

Hi welcome .... Yep advice is to leave the wife/g-friend at home ... and then you can go as fast as you like without the whine _________________ 2003 GV1600 Sport Soft Top. Great for Fun in Snow and sun |

I would start by getting it up off the ground on axle stands. Make double sure its safe, and run it up. You can pinpoint the noise and then get back to us.
