hi mate like you I asked the same question on here, But it does not seem to be the same on here as on other club sit`s or they just do not want to know, well getting back to your problem I ended going in for 215/70/16 as I wanted an A/T tyre have not had them fitted yet they work out about 20mm larger on the O/D and not so wide.
hope this help`s you, if you look around you can get some good deal`s on 215/70/16. ho bye the way they should still fit over the rear bumper I have the grand vitara 2001 and to honest I forgot all about the cut out on the bumper,But holding the tyre up it look`s good.
you might find they put the speedo out a little, from what I had been looking at on a good American site they were very helpful couple of them said it did and some said it made no difference to them,I got a full set of boots for £325 all in. Prestige wheel centre.

all the best tricky

try using this ... and put in the tyre sizes ... it will give some info on speedo readings etc.
