Finally got a spare tyre for my sj but I'm having problems on where to hang it. The back door now has the lights on it so I cant hang it there with out a lot of bother moving them which I don't want to do.

My other option I was thinking about was the bonnet, was just wondering on peoples thoughts on this??

itll make it difficult to open the bonnet if you need to, what about the roof or even up on the side willys style?

Little worried on the roof with the weight and it wanting to tip, I've not lifted the car or widened it's a axles in any way.
Will have to look where on the side would be secure enough to hold it.
I was thinking if I put it in the bonnet I would just get a land rover bonnet lift to stand it open.

Would rather keep it out side as chainsaws and other sharp things go in the back and don't fancy ruining the tyre also I have a large ammo crate bolted down already in the back.

no other ideas?

ive already moved the rear speakers into a box ive created for the roof, the big ammo box is already bolted down in the back, the high lift jack is mounted to the dog cage.

the only thing im worried about bonnet mounting the spare is if its legal or not.

Wow! Got some weight on her already.
Can't you put the spare back where it was on the rear door, move the number plate & carry the fuel on the spare piggyback style
like they carry pushbikes on a rack? Those square no.plates are ok & dont use much space.
Just a thought.
Personally, I would think bonnet mounting might restrict visibility but thats just me.

The problem is all the lights would need moving aswell as the number plate, I couldn't piggyback the jerry can of the spare or my boat wouldn't get close enough to go on the tow bar and I think I would have the same problem if I put the spare on the back the boat wouldn't get close enough to hitch up. And I already have a tow bar bike rack that the jerry can just gives me enough space for bikes

Crikey! Not so simple then.
I was going to suggest you sacrifice your rear view  & hang the spare off centre just higher with the jerry next to it- if you're towing you're used to driving van style with mirrors anyway. However, the extra weight especially not centred might not do your rear door many favours.
You could sling the spare in the boat but thats no help most of the time  Laughing
Have to admit Im completely flummoxed  Shocked

If you dont do long journeys thats probably the answer. You're def not a virgo tho if you can go out without being prepared for every eventuality.....lol
I guess you'll have to make it optional & fling it in the back when you are most likely to need it, cant imagine you combine ammo & chainsaws too often!
Slightly off topic-Iwas told that some vehicle manufacturers no longer supply a spare wheel as standard, something about safety reasons & spares not cutting the mustard! If thats the case, how do you come off with the AA/Rac etc if you have a puncture? DO they trot off & get it fixed/replaced?

I've been thinking about this for a couple of days now... I don't think you have much option other than leave it at home or put it on the bonnet, if you can live with the restricted forward view.  Rolling Eyes
