Well it looks like I will be saying goodbye to my GV1600 (2001 - Y Reg - 104,000 miles) one way or another.

It broke down on me a couple of weeks ago, giving a quick squeal and rubber burning smell and then all lights showing and would not start.

Got it towed to my dads and have been going down when it has not been raining to strip it and find out what was wrong, suspecting the timing belt (which was due to be changed in a few weeks time).
Got the timing covers off, etc. and found the belt was OK and the timing marks were lined up on the top and bottom pulleys and was a bit puzzled BUT then spotted the dwell pin in the canshaft pulley had sheered off.

My dad made another one and we refitted it all back together but the pin sheering has already done its damage and there is very little compression on cylinder no 2.

It looks like it will now be getting sold as a spares or repair as I cannot be bothered to strip the head off and spend money on getting it done up.

That's carp luck mate  Crying or Very sad

So that'll be yours on the clinic then? Gum clinic Wink

I'm sure I saw an engine up for sale round here recently, a swap would be quick and painless assuming you haven't sold yours yet Wink

Sorry for not replying, I decided to sell it for spares/ repairs to a bloke near Carlisle who was going to do it up and off road it.

After 8 years of owning Grand Vitara's ( 4 years each of XL7 then GV1600) I changed to a Range Rover P38 DSE, will probably regret it but will see.
