Posted: Tue May 22, 2012 11:50 Post subject: Exhaust Clamp solution required |
|
|
On the way home from our holidays the exhaust on our GV1600 (2001) started blowing from the front joint, the one between the first and second cat (the one with the springs and bolts holding it together).
The bracket welded on the front part of this has rusted away so there is nothing for the bolts to go through to hold this into the underfloor cat section.
What I am looking for is an idea of how to clamp these two sections together without having to resort to replacing the first cat/ downpipe section.
Sort of a clamp at each side of the joint and a way of then holding these two clamps togther so it does not leak.
It would be a lot easier if these joined with a normal clamp but I suppose that would not then take into account any movement if the engine/exhaust apart from the rubber mounts along the exhaust length.
Any ideas please? |

Thanks all for the ideas, I managed to rig up a temp solution with a hanger from a volvo and wire/ exhaust bandage but the car decided it had enough and sheared the dwell pin on the camchaft pulley, bendign valves on no2 cylinder.
It got sold for spares/ repair to a bloke near Carlisle who was going to off road it, either doing the engine up or replacing it. |
