As a newbie I apologise for asking this because your probably sick of the same old questions. I can select 4wd high and low no problem. The manual hubs turn ok but how do you know if they are 'working'? In other words when locked the 4wd system is fully engaged. A recent venture off tarmac made be suspicicious as The car didn't grip as well on a muddy surface which is only a few inches deep with a firm under surface. The car is on road biased tyres? Don't want to make a burk of myself getting stuck 10 yards off a main road!
Any help advice I would be grateful for.
Thanks
Landmerc.

the easiest way to do it is jack all 4 wheels off the ground and put it in drive.

if all 4 wheels turn, its working.

if not, then clean out the hubs and regrease them. quite often they stick and it only takes a little bit of work to cure any problems...

tyre fitters have no reason to even touch the hubs.

if you need it, im pretty sure the haynes book of fairy tales has a good diagram
