hi all,

not too hot on engines and gearboxes yet but ive noticed a clear oily type oil dripping out of what i guess is my gearbox(or transfer box? not read my haynes yet). i know the breather pipes have not been extended on my vit and the previous owner took it up to its eyeballs in mud.

a friend of mine who does landys said its probably the driveshaft seal leaking??? which is quite possible as the oil does seem to be coming from where a shaft comes out of the box. how difficult are these seals to replace? i assume the gearbox needs opening up, etc?

what else could it be? is it possible that the breather pipes are blocked? i know when my oil breather on an old car blocked up, all the engine oil squirted out the dipstick cos the crankcase pressurised, same thing?

cheers for your help!

Arron
