Twice now my jimny has dumped the contents of its rad into the overflow chamber
(expansion?). Not wishing to admit my ineptness, where do I begin to look for the reason?
Am sure its supposed to stay in or near the radiator & not in that plastic bottle where it keeps ending up!
Any clues would be gratefully received. If the answer is technical, please reply in "girl" or it will fry my
little brain Confused
Thanks in advance

isd the rad actually emptying itself into the bottl, or just filling the bottle as well?

If its emptying itself there must be something pressurising it and that usually a head gasket problem.

Aaargh NO! Head gasket sounds REALLY technical. I will look again when I get home 2nite
to see where it has decided to put the fluid 2day!!
The twice its done this, there wasnt much in the rad itself, but the bottle was overflowing
(thats how a dope like me noticed in the first place). This time I tipped contents of bottle back
into the rad so I could see what it was losing/using & left the bottle just under max. Prob
the wrong way to go about things but it makes sense to a non mech.
Actually, I was hoping someone would say-thermostat , cos I read that bit & reckon I could do
it given 3weeks & a couple of crates of wine Smile
If it turns out to be headgasket I will need more than wine, I will need a mech Crying or Very sad

Hmm. 2days running & no reoccurrence of the water problem. I did puff through the
little pipe thingy in case there was some sorta blockage tho i doubt that did anything!
Will have to revert to the tried & tested little wife option-"poor little me might have a
problem with the car"
he will say "just keep an eye on it & tell me if anything else happens"
i say.............much later if it all goes horribly wrong.........."I TOLD YOU THERE WAS A
PROBLEM WTH IT, ITS YOUR FAULT.WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO MEND IT?"
seriously though, only doing short journeys at the mo so going to keep checking
and hoping. I just know Im goin2 get paranoid over this now so I guess it'll be in to
have a health check from the mech earlier than planned.
Final dim question-if you have the patience- I see what happens, hot water expands
& thats what the bottle is for, so if the water is getting into the bottle ok might that just mean
there is a problem with the ??valve?? that sends it back when the water is no longer expanded?
Or is that just too silly.? thanks anyway

Ive had jimny almost a year now, it gets up to 3/4 on temp guage really quick
(within 5miles) then stays there but it hasnt ever got hotter than that so I assumed
everything was working aok & that was just a jimny thing! Am currently obsessed with
watching the temp guage so will be asking yet more questions if there's any changes Laughing  Laughing

Okey dokey..................lazy and STUPID Sad
It happened again and this time I looked inside the expansion bottle!
Now that I have reconnected the rubber pipey thing that was rattling
around in the bottle to the cap, I reckon the problem will be solved Very Happy
Hope so. That will be two things I have fixed in this year Laughing
Sorry if I have wasted anyones time Embarassed
