Hello Royce,

I'm not close to your age, but I've got a modified Samurai which I ensure with a 4x4 insurerer called Frank Pickles, and it only costs me £115 per year.
That's including telling them all about the mods including the 1600 Vit engine.

It might be worth giving them a try.

Sorry to butt in, can you let us know how you get on because this question gets asked
pretty frequently and it would be useful to other members. Obviously no intrusive info but
a "ball-park" idea would be appreciated muchly.
(Personally, Ive got a 25yo son I'd like to add to mine at renewal & my current insurer is baulking
at the thought!)
Thanx in advance

But only if you want very specialist insurance, with a lot of conditions ... from memory -

The car must be 'heavily' modified for off-road
It must be primarily used for off-roading
The car must be a second vehicle (ie - not used for your every-day use)
It will be subject to a very restricted mileage
You must be the ONLY driver
etc
etc

People rave about Frank Pickles, but there are loads of insurance specialists who can provide very competitive, extremely restrictive insurance policies for off-roaders.

Give Adrian Flux a call - 01553 845945 - young drivers and 4x4 owners are two of their 'niche markets' Wink

Adrian Flux can give good prices, as i did get a quote on a land rover disco for about £500 for a year including all mods and i am 21.

My downside is i have made 4 claims in the past 4 years, none of which are my fault meaning i have 4 years no claims discount but i get penalised for the claims i have made as they claim statistics prove i am like to claim again in future even tho a 3rd party was at fault on all my claims...

Hi
My son is 23 and wanting to buy an old SJ410.  Your comments have been helpful, but just one other thought.  If the 4x4 prop was permanently disconnected is there any way that this would help getting a lower insurance group as a 970cc run around town vehicle?  Is this feasible and has anyone any experience of this? Confused

it wouldnt make any difference if you disconnected the prop as the vehicle is designated a 4x4 by the manufacturer.

the only thing it might do is slightly improve the fuel consumption
