hi, i have bought a sj410 and when i start it i have to red line it for it to keep running or it doesnt start or just cuts out, once its warmed up it idles very well, i need to know if it might me the carb?
i need to change the timing belt anyway but im told theres a big chance its the carb.

any help would be aprreciated...

Almost certainly a choke problem – I assume it’s a manual choke being a SJ410?

Check that the choke cable, when being pulled out, is actually engaging the choke butterfly valve in the carb, and the butterfly valve actually rotates freely and returns when the cable is pushed back in. You will need to remove the air intake to see this action.

Um, this needs to be fixed quickly because, as you probably know, its not good red lining an engine from cold - they have a strong tendency to break (which is very boring).
