|
|
Hello,
I am looking at getting a Vitara as a daily as I currently have a stripped S13 which just isn't fun day to day at all. The only thing that concerns me really is the general 'performance' capabilities of the Vitara. I have a spare CA18DET engine lying around with a turbo etc so I want to know how much work it would take to put this engine into a Vitara? Would it mate to the Suzuki gearbox? Would it be too much for the standard transmission as its a jump to around 170hp Would it be in anyway possible to put in the engine AND gearbox from my S13 as gearboxes are not expensive and will handle the power obviously..
Thanks |

its not the gearbox so much as the axles that wont handle the power jump...
yes it will mate to the original gearbox but youll have to make a adaptor plate and that is a VERY precise matter... _________________ the car in front is a toyota...
the car pulling it out of the mud is a suzuki |

When you say the axles is it the diffs that are going to get chewed up? I'll try and get the dimensions of the CA18 and 200SX gearbox together and see if they would fit instead. It'll be easier to make mounts for the gearbox than it will to make an adaptor plate I imagine? |

if you change the box you'll lose the 4 wheel drive, will the box fit in the tunne?l does the gear lever come out in the right place? you'll need a custom prop made to fit the back of the box and a custom speedo drive cable, you'll probably need a beefier radiator, a custom exhaust, the fuel system from an injected Vit or one made up to suit, better brakes is probably a good idea as well.
I've built a lot of cars over the years and to be honest if you have to ask those sort of questions on a forum i would say you'd be better of paying a pro to do the work, a full on engine/gearbox conversion is likely to set you back a couple of grand for labour from a pro, its not impossible to take on a job like this, but it will cost more, take longer and be full of awkward little problems you are not expecting. |

I wouldn't be doing the work, but if its possible to do without costing £xk then I'd like to know as a Vitara will be the slowest car I'll have had since I was actually 17 I cant justify spending £2k to put an engine into a car that will have cost less than £1k to buy.
I'm looking for around 100-120hp ideally but as I have the CA18 lying around which would be 169hp I thought I could ask. What other ways could I get to 100ish without spending a fortune? |

Cheers, I'm still looking about and currently emailing some-one about a fatboy he is selling. I think its the 16v so that'll help and hopefully the change left over will help pay for a couple of the bits on that website |
