hi all!
i have a 1990 vitara, i use it mainly for offroading as this is my second car and this is what i brought it for. i have owned the car for about 2 months and i have just killed my second alternator, i killed it on sunday at an offroad track there was other vitaras there and they didnt seem to have any problems with thier alternator it just mine this there anything that i can buy or make to protect it when i am offroading and advise would be appreciated because i havent got a clue why it only seems to be mine that goes.

i do some deep water is there a guard that i can buy or make to protect it from the water or is anything i can do to protect it

kinx how much do u buy one for each time.

I dunno about modern cars but when we used to rally mk1 escorts we used to pick up alternators with seperate control boxes instead of them having all the electronics mounted on the back, you then mount the box inside a water proof container on an inner wing, with full water prrofing on the ignition system as well they would run under water no problem, water splashes at 90mph were fine. Very Happy

youll need airflow to keep it cool or itll cook

i have two i just keep cleanin them out there 1 or 2 on ebay for 25 might ave gone now . most the time its just the muddy water that sticks to everything get some cleaner take them apart clean everything u can get to and refit i never have had one that dont work again  Cool

I found this advice on a landrover forum

white grease might be a bit better u can get it at any car shop its around £3
