Posted: Sun Jun 20, 2010 16:02 Post subject: Rear Diff and Prop...413 Sammy Sport ? |
|
|
Hi,
I need to fit a rear diff & prop to my first Zook, can anyone advise on, what I need to look for (are the 410 & 413 the same, etc ?), will anything else "bolt on" (Vitara or Jimny ?), any pitfalls, how easy is the install (on my drive, DIY).
Any help appreciated, I am quite capable with a set of spanners, at the moment the old diff and prop are not on the vehicle, so I wont have to worry about removal. But I also dont have them for comparison either !!
Do I need to know/match ratios, etc ? Thanks guys, I am itching to get this thing off road !!!! |

Hey, thanks for the reply...again !!
Is there a definite difference. The thing has got Samurai badges on the front wings and dashboard. I thought the 413 and Samurai were the same......Sorry, I AM a noob to this stuff !!! The V5 also says Samurai Sport.
Can someone explain what the differences are because it is confusing the hell out of me !!! |

Hello mate,
the Samurai is slightly different to the 413. It was apparently built under license by LandRover and they fitted wider, stronger axles. There are a few other differences too, but I think that is the important one for you as you are looking at changing stuff in the axle.
I hope that helps a bit. Zocko or someone else will probably have a bit more information for you soon. _________________ Alan

samurais have a higher gear ratio for a better top end so the rear diff is different.
ill check to see if the diff i have is 413 or samurai... _________________ the car in front is a toyota...

No need Zocko, I have secured a Samurai diff + prop from a 53k L plate Samurai Sport.
Now just need to sort a front exhaust piece, if anyone has one and can post/meet. Otherwise I will just buy new at about £100 !!
I have sorted all the dodgy electrics this week, charged the totally flat battery and hey presto, starts first time every time !! All lights and fogs also now work, well chuffed. |

Hi mate, I take it you are talking about the exhaust piece ?? That is a good price. PM me with the details and I'll take one off your hands.
I am hoping the diff and prop will be here by the weekend, do I need to use any sort of gasket or sealant to mate it to the axle ?? I have also noticed an oil leak from the front diff at the flange, is there any sort of oil seal in there ??
Sorry for so many questions !!!
Cheers

I am guessing, Axle strip down (brake drums, etc) remove half shafts, install diff, reinstall everything. Install brake lines, bleed.
Fill diff with oil and hey presto ????
But hey, I aint no mechanic, is this a scary job, you have frightened me now !!! LOL. I was looking forward to it !!
Anything you recommend that should be changed during the process, or anything that will be destroyed during the process ?? I am thinking wheel bearings, brake cylinders, hoses, etc ??? |
