the oil pick up pipe is longer on the vitara so the sump is taller than an sj, so you remove the vit sump remove the pickup pipe chop the end off ofd weld the sj end on then fit the sj sump. kind of that easy or spoa and it clears as standard |
Cool, thanks for the info.
I didn't really want to go SPOA because I don't like the idea of the car being really tall, I'm worried about stability. But everyone recommends it so I might consider it now that I'm probably putting a Vit lump in. Otherwise the oil pick up mod don't sound too difficult _________________ Alan

Does anybody know if the CARBURETTOR, ALTERNATOR, STARTER MOTOR and DISTRIBUTOR are interchangeable between the Samurai 1300 engine and the Vitara 1600 8v engine? (Or any of the bits if not all)
There is a Vit engine on eBay minus them parts and I'm trying to work out what other bits I'd need to get.
I know it's a complicated, silly question but someone might know so thought it worth asking _________________ Alan

you need everything from the vit engine excpt the dissy, thatll swap i think.
depending on the engine you might also get away with the starter and alternator but it depends on where the 2 engines were built _________________ the car in front is a toyota...

Cheers mate.
I think I may be better off buying a whole car initially then to get the swap done. _________________ Alan

do you have an su carb? if you do you just change the needle as the inlet manifold and exhaust manifold are the same, you use the sammi fly wheel and clutch so all you need is a starter and alternator |

Ah that's cool, I do have a SU carb fitted to my Sammy. It sounds like the Vit and Samurai engine's are near enough the same engine. _________________ Alan

Ricky I'm no pro at welding but I get by. If you get yourself some suitable metal and come over here, I'll have a go at it for you.
Can you take a picture of the hole and email it across so I can see how big the hole is, and where it is in the footwell.
I might have some bits of scrap metal I can patch it with if it's not too big. _________________ Alan

The holes just a little bigger than a 2 pound coin. I think my MOT was a con anyway. Which is a scary thought really. Before i took it in the passenger selt bely wasnt buckling in. Now i have my zuke back the seat belt still isnt buckling in. Im sure that should have been a MOT fail. WOuldnt it? |

Let me know when you want it done then mate and we'll get it arranged.
Also I might have a spare seat belt buckle thingy on the spare SJ I've got. _________________ Alan

Paul do I really need the adapter plate? I'm sure I've heard that you drill either the bellhousing or engine, can't remember which. _________________ Alan
