Has anyone fitted or knows anything about fitting Samurai axles into an SJ410 ?

I now have a very solid SJ410 and a rotten Samurai.
I want to take all the running gear (except transfer box) out of the Sammy and fit it to the 410, but I've noticed that the 410 leaf spring hangers are closer together than on the Sammy. This'll be because the 410 axles are narrower, what I want to know is, will my wider Sammy axles squeeze in or do I have to weld new seats on the axles or weld new leaf spring hangers to the chassis in the correct position?

Yeah I was starting to think that too, but I've been out looking at it all afternoon and now I'm thinking that it really wouldn't be too much of a job to weld re-positioned hangers on the chassis.
I have my Samurai that the axles will come from to use as reference for the positioning, and I could even cut the Samurai chassis up and use the actual hangers from that.

The 410 and Samurai chassis appear to have been identical and then when they made the Samurai to have wider axles, it looks like they just welded some extra bits on so they could move the hangers a few centimeters to the outside.

I'll give it some more thought before hacking away at anything and check what other options I find through inquiries.

You're right zocko, another project for me. I should practice being satisfied with what I've got but I always succumb to temptation  Rolling Eyes

I suppose I could do a SPOA conversion while I'm at it, but to be honest I originally wasn't going to weld anything. I thought I could unbolt my Sammy axles with the leaf springs still attached, roll them under the 410 and bolt them in.
I have considered whether I could do a SPOA conversion, welding the seats onto my Sammy axles in the same position as the the 410 seats, but I think they might be too close to the diff on the front axle.

Are yours Samurai axles and your jeep a 410?
Only asking because after much measuring, I'm not certain that without moving the leaf springs further apart, there would enough room to mount perches in the position they'd need to be to fit the current leaf spring position, but I may be wrong as it's so close.

Oh, so you've got Samurai axles in your 413?
If that's right, then my Samurai axles should squeeze into my 410 with just a SPOA conversion, which would allow me to move the perches  Very Happy

just remember the closer you have the perches on the axle, the more prone to tipping over itll be

Good point! I'm back and forth in my head trying to decide what way to go with this.
I think you've finally helped me decide, I'm gonna move them spring hangers out to the same position as my Sammy spring hangers.
