Hi My son has a 1.6 16v (G16B) engined vitara JLX we have recently changed the engine (due to a cracked block) and now the replacement engine runs perfectly and gives good mpg and has a nice grey exhaust after a run. But for some reason the water exspanion bottle slowly keeps emptying ( takes about a week) The car has a new rad and cap, a new thermostat and sensor, the gauges have been tested and are okay. The engine warms up nicely and then sits just below the middle of the temp gauge, there are no signs of leakage from any of the pipes or fittings, I have also done a compression test on the engine and all cylinders are within 4 psi of each other. The engine has done 46,678 miles and I am now starting to scratch my head on this has anyone any ideas ? Thanks |

my old vitara did the same thing, then the head gasket went completely! mayo in the oil!!
you can get some type of indicator for hydrocarbons in the water I think. that may spot if the gasket is about to go or has gone very slightly.
