Alright Liam,
The SU conversion was definitely a good move. I put £20 of fuel in it for the last Whaddon trip, drove all the way there, blatted around for several hours, drove back home and then around for another 2 days before needing any more fuel, it's excellent.
With the standard carb I put £10 of fuel in it to get home from Banbury which is only about 20 miles away. The next day it ran out of fuel on my drive whilst I was trying to tune it up
I think the carb needs a tune up as it seems to lack a bit of power when you put your foot hard down. It hesitates before picking up and seems to have more power if you lift off the pedal a little while driving.
Going to start fabricating some sort of snorkel at the weekend or whenever it is I finish welding all the sill and floor back up. Once I've got that on the car, I think I'll take it somewhere that tunes carburetors and let them have a tinker with it.
Here's a couple pics of how it is now.

K guess I was wrong about real cheap but still it was $500 ... Canadian dollars but the up grade is huge for horse power. Like a good amount to make your 1.6 have more power than you will ever need |

Liam click the link and scroll down to picture 15. You'll see where I got the info about the carb piston needing air.
SU carb air filter adapter
I'll try and find the information that told me that the tube you say is a breather, is actually a fuel over flow. If I can't find it, it may mean I dreamt it, which may mean I was talking sh*te earlier _________________ Alan
