|

Hi everybody,
has anyone else noticed different length U-bolts on the front axle of their Samurai?
The drivers side are long, leaving quite a bit of thread exposed, whilst the passenger side has shorter ones with very little thread left showing.
A mate told me he had longer bolts one side, so I looked at mine and found I have too! Has anybody any idea why this is? _________________ Alan

the spring perches on the front axle are positioned further inboard than the rear axle. the reason for this is the steering knuckles.
because of this the driverside front spring perch is pretty much on the diff, where the axle tube widens, as its wider you need longer u-bolts. also, the inner diameter of the u-bolt is greater.
hope this helps _________________ if its got t*ts or tyres, its gonna be trouble!! |

That was a very definitive explanation, I'm impressed
Thanks for enlightening me, I need to know these things or else be bothered forever. I would have ended up taking things apart in search of the reason.
Take care _________________ Alan
