|
|
well been trying to sort the brakes out for most of the day !!! the sj seems to have ford transit front flex houses (think for extra length) and ford escort back callipers and sj front disc on the back for the brake conversion.
iv put new copper pipe on front and a new flex hose cos one was split, iv put new pads on, but the brakes are still *beep*, bled brakes loads of times and still very soft.
HELP !!! |

can you explain more?
ie is the pedal firm but go soft if you hold pressure on the pedal?
can you get a firm pedal at all? _________________ the car in front is a toyota...

the pedal gets firm when pumped but when i drive away its soft again when i press it. if i pump the pedal and get it firm then hold pressure on the pedal it stays firm. drive away its soft again and brakes only just work
hope that helps |

weird
assuming youve checked all the calipers for proper operation (piston/sliders moving freely), my only thought would be that the internal bore of the ford flexys and the size of the ford caliper pistons are larger, meaning they need more fluid flow to operate an acceptable amount of pressure to function properly.
the sj's master cylinder may not be able to pump enough fluid to achieve this.
did you modify the brakes yourself, or were they done by a former owner?
do you have any knowledge of hydraulic systems?
hope this all makes sense, and my questions dont seem rude but brakes are a serious part of your and everyone elses safety. _________________ if its got t*ts or tyres, its gonna be trouble!! |

Deathbus is right, but try clamping each flexi brake line one at a time and see if the pedal gets harder, this will tell you where the problem lies, or point you in the general direction? Vise grips should do or you can buy brake line clamps. or try one axle at a time, if you end up with all the lines clamped and still no pedal, then there is still air in the system, or the seals are poor in the master cylinder? you'll be able to tell if you get a good pedal by pumping but the pedal starts to go soft.
you could try a bigger master cylinder?
hope this helps?

Is that what you think is wrong? did you try everything else, cos thats just a last resort. Not sure what will fit straight on, but you can make anything fit, probably one off a larger vehicle, havea look around the breakers yards, take some measurements first or take your unit with you? |
