hi ,im wanting to do a engine conversion in my sj but i'm stuck on the basics.
from a 1.0 to a 1.6 8v or 16v not sure as of yet .
can i use a vitara box or do i need a sj413 box ??
and is there anything i should be aware of or look out for during the conversion ? please help if you can,

You want a 1600 8v vitara engine, the Sj413 gearbox and a conversion plate to bolt the 2 2gether.
Engine mounts need modifing a little.
It isnt that hard to convert them, me and a mate done it for the first time just before christmas, was all done in a day!
Now the sj is a real monster!!
Would have done it sooner if i had have known how simple it was and the difference it makes!. |

sorry to bring up old post. im looking at buying an sj410. been told that the diesel engine is better, is this true?
but keeping onto the same subject of the vitara engine, is it the same wiring loom and ecu from the sj or is the vitara one needed??? |

cool, thank you. ive not got one yet. just awaiting for the completion of my bmw sale so i can get one. i have been offered a very cheap 410. having issues insuring it at the minute. had quotes of £1805.
how do you go about waterproofing the electrics? points and condensor on the 410 i have been told. |

just remember that sj's are more agile whereas discos depend on power to drag their weight through everything.
think of it as a mountain goat versus an elephant _________________ the car in front is a toyota...

Well its taken me more than a month to start modding my SJ!!!!
I havent yet but im thinking of chucking the lump out of my vitara mud dog into it and wondered if you ever managed to post your conversion on here?????
