Hi, my partners car a suzuki jimny, x reg, low milage, soft top, automatic, 1.4. has a very poor heater especially with the cold spell we are having at the moment. I have drained the system, had radflush in it for 24 hours, drained and flushed out, replaced thermo stat, refilled with antifreeze/water etc The heat o/p is now even worse as this new stat runs cooler than the old one. water getting through the heater matrix ok and water pipes/hoses to and from heater get hot. Heat can be felt near the heater matrix and all controls appear to be working fine but heat to any point, widscreen, vents etc is very low and can be barely felt on the hand. Is this normal for these cars or is there a soloution to this problem? Any help would be appreciated, thx Rik |

Hi mate, i had sort of the same problem with my 1999 vitara, waisted good time and two lots of antifreeze, no matter what i did the heater was running bloody cold, eventually feeling beaten i took it to a garage, and they tried everything (apparently) ok they never charged me, but they diagnosed a blocked matrix,(bear in mind i did exactly what you have done, flushed it out from top and bottom) so i was advised to do it all over again but this time after having run the engine water system with a tablet of DISHWASHER stuff in it. So i did run it for 3 days with the stuff in it, eventually again i drained the system flushed it yet again and just to be sure i have got a small compressor i used compressed air to clean the matrix out, ok i did not see any brown sludge coming out, i filled up with just rain water from a butt to test the result and it really started to get hot inside, i took it for a spin to make sure the heater was blowing not warm but bloody hot air, got back drained the system yet again and filled premix of coolant from halfords. That was last week and its still ok now, so perhaps that dishwasher tablet did the trick in clearing whatever it was that obstructed the matrix. Hope this helps. |
