Hello people,

I was wondering if any one could suggest what is wroong with my vitara as it whines when i put it into 5th gear. The whining does stop if i depress the clutch and free wheel if this helps you.
Another little problem is when the lock is put on full the wheels seem to lock like the hand brake is on slightly. I think this only happens when its in four wheel drive though.
Any ideas????????

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Gordy

Hi Gordy,
Sounds like you have issues with the 5th gear, might be the hard facing has come off the gear teeth, or bearings are failing in the box, to find out, drain a little oil from th gearbox your lloking for shiny metalic perticles, also look on the drain and level plugs for metal, they should be magnetic. if you find traces of metal you have confirmed the worse, the gearbo will deteiorate from here, you can still use it, change the oil evey couple thousand miles, or just get it repaired or get a recon box.
Try to avoid tight manouvering when in 4wd on solid ground, they all do it,  am not to up to date with suzuki 4x4 gear but it may be they dont have a centre diff like landrovers etc, so just be - aware, maybee some else can enlighten us!?

do you have larger than standard tyres that are rubbing on the chassis perhaps?

look at the chassis at the front and back of the wheels and see if the paint has been rubbed off?
