I just realised I never did a write up on the box section sills mod / repair job I did last year Embarassed , so here goes.....

OK, start by chopping out the rot, go at it with the angle grinder! Go on, don't be shy! Laughing
It was somewhat rotten under there...

Oh the body mounts at the rear of the tub were pretty knackered too Crying or Very sad

Old sill gone

New bit of box in and welded up....

...then boxed in at the back.

Repeat for the other side

repaired body mounts

Finish with copious amounts of seam sealer, some primer.....

.....a skim of filler and a few coats of shutz and Robert will be your father's brother.

(I have lots more pics, if anyone needs to see anything specific give me a shout Wink )

That's excellent DaiRees,

I've just bought a rotten old SJ and will be doing that exact job (and many other jobs!) within the next couple of weeks. It was nice to see your post covering what's involved so that I can know what to expect.

The finished job looks very nice and well worth the effort.

Cheers guys,

Sorry Ian for the delayed response, there's about £40 - £50 of steel there and it took me bloody ages Laughing , but I'm a bit of a fiddler and do like to take my time. I reckon if you got on with it you could do it in a day easily Very Happy

Hiya mate, it's 80 X 80 X 3mm box.

Drill some drainage holes right through the box before welding it in place Wink
